  • Fireplace insight?

    Hi,

We are working on a fireplace and we're getting a pretty decent set up going. However one issue we are seeing is that the "fall off" at the top is a bit big / gloopy / floaty. See image / animation.

Any insights which settings control this? Looking at videos of real fireplaces I would expect that we need to have the flame at the top to be smaller and quicker to "go out".

    EDIT,
Wrong forum, can this be moved to the phoenix fd general forum?

Hi, thanks for posting. There are a number of methods that you can try in order to achieve the desired look:

    1. reduce the Fluidity (conservation quality) under Dynamic roll-out of your Grid. This will shorten the distance of the fluid motion and will reduce the swirling and have less disconnected parts.

Or go with a different method. Which one are you using now?

    2. Increase the Cooling a bit. The fluid won't rise that much and he might need to compensate with the source emission, but the temperature will dissipate faster and you'll have less of htat lingering parts.

    3. You can adjust the fire emission curve in the Rendering settings dialog.

The parts that you wish to get rid of, should be cooler than the core of the fire and they shoudl be on the left part of the graph. You can try clipping it out.

You can share a screenshot of your your dynamics and rendering settings as well, so we can see if there is anything else that you may try.

    Cheers

      Hi,

Thanks for the info! We found steps 2 & 3 and were using that to improve the fire. So nice to know the other options to further test and improve it!
