  • Hair & Fur lighted with phoenix

    Hi there!

    I'm trying to render a fury caracter (with hair & fur) holding a torch made with phoenix. (see screen 1)
    We made phoenix with an additional light and result is really convincing, BUT when we render the scene with modifiers Hair&Fur it crash all the time.
    I even can reproduce this bug with a teapot with low fur.

    In doc, it is said that additional lights shouldn't be used when using GI... why ? how do you project light fire when using GI ? you fake it with a omni ?

    We use brute force / light cache because of the vrayHairMaterial, one caracter is made with ornatrix, and it's working great.
    Simulation has been made with Phoenix 2.0, i've tryed to render with 2.1 but looks like it's the same.


    Have you ever try phoenix + hair&fur ?

    Look likes it's on render end, when cleaning RAM that the crash comes.

      In doc, it is said that additional lights shouldn't be used when using GI... why ?
      this is an old recommendation, i will check if is still in the documentation but it's no longer valid. the reason for it was the double lighting of the scene when GI is used. now you can use GI with additional lights, even the sample scenes use it.
      can you send us a simple scene, that reproduces that produces the crash?

          no crash here
          can you send me the log file of phoenix after a crash? the log file is in documents/phoenix fd

          edit: we reproduced it, i hope we will able to find a workaround for you

                  I can see an issue "crash with hair and fur lit by phoenix vray light" that is marked as fixed for the nightly builds on the 27th. Does that help?
