  • few general issues- filling containers, cascades - finding info

    Hi

i am evaluating phoenix and am running a little short of time for such a clearly deep tool- so please help if you can and excuse my ignorance
    1.initial fill problems
i having been playing around abit with the fluid side of things i am still having trouble just getting 'initial fill up' to work as suggested using the 'brush mode' - if any one can point me to an example file or a tutorial that would be great!
    2. cascade - i want to do a pour from a bottle to a glass (as per the examples on the forum by the developers) - i understand these files are available or will be - if we can get them that would be great- but i also could do with an explanation of cascade sims- need for them etc
    3. i am finding the search for info regards using phoenix pretty time consuming - this forum is a help but looking for a more central resource - the sample files and info on them seems quite scattered across the net

do not mean to be impatient as i understand this is not really 'casual' use software- just running out of time to decide if we go the phoenix route

    thanks for any help

    hi,
    1. the initial fill up scene is already sent to you, it uses the brush source method described in the help

    2. the cascade connection has limited application, it is suitable only for scenes where the flow is strongly directed. it does not use special core feature, it is just an user technique, based on source that uses phoenix geometry of the first simulator. the file is available in the nightlies

    3. we know we need to produce more tutorials and samples, we are working in this direction. for now you can ask here, we will help you.

      thanks very much Ivaylo

1the file helps a lot with the initial fill up-i assumed the initial fill up button had to be on- for some reason - stupid of me
      2. i assume the nightlies demos are not available to demo users?
      3. understood- thanks - regards the wine bottle pour you posted a video of- is that using a cascade?

correct, the nightly builds are available only for customers
the wine bottle really uses cascade connection, the wine flow is only in direction from the bottle to the glass, so the cascade technique is useful.

          hi

am very please to say i have a full bottle and can shake it around with no fluids leaving its confines and all looks good.

if i take the same simulator and and just fill it up using initial state and then put an wsm force like vortex in it it behaves as i would expect (like a propeller going through it)
if i then do the same with the same simulator but use it to fill a container (the bottle) the vortex seems to do nothing...

as usual thanks in advance for any advice

you mean the simulator is the same, nothing is changed except the initial fill up method?
            i see two possible reasons:
            - just the space in the bottle is too low and this prevents the vortex forming
            - you didn't animate the initial fill up source discharge and it continues to produce liquid, canceling the wsm efforts
