  • Underwater with ocean mode - distorted camera view

    Hi,
in my scene i have som kind of submarine cockpit witch dives.
I use the ocean mode to simulate the water surface.
The camera is in the cockpit.
The problem is: The image is distorted by the IOR of the water material.
Took me Long time to figure that out

After serching for the problem in this forum i found this thread:
    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...-surface-issue

Where Ivaylo Katev talked about a "underwater glasses" effect on the Camera.
And i think: That is the Problem, the Materals proporties are added to the Camera so the IOR distort´s the Image.
Where can i Deactivate this Feature?
My Camera is in a Cockpit, i dont want the interior to be distorted by the Water IOR, There is air in it

    Thanx, Ihno

Ps: Well iam German, i hope you can understand my english
German guy, sorry for my English.

can you post an image? the cockpit can't play as "underwater glasses" because it is not part of the liquid geometry. i think without underwater glasses there will be still a problem, but we can give this a try.

ok, we can add a ckeckbox to switch off the underwater glasses, but you have to apply the water material over the cockpit glasses and to flip the normals.
this is almost full solution, but is not perfect - the fog color of the water will affect even the objects above the water, in the most cases you can't see them because the full internal reflection, so i believe this is not a problem.

        Here is the Image.
I think i dont want the "Underwater Glasses" effect, not on the cockpit glasses ehier.
I will use a Vray Environment Fog and some Phoenix Particles as Plankton, i think this will be enough to get the underwater Feeling.
What i whant to see is: what i see in my Previews, because ive made some animations of sharks in front of the cockpit, they probably dont work if i see only the half or a totaly distorted version of them. But i will try it, maby it looks good..

I think I am having a similar issue that I haven't been able to resolve - but as Ihno said, it's directly related to the IOR of the water material.

There are no spheres surrounding the camera, but as you can see from the horizon, things are clearly distorted. Any ideas on how I can remove this distortion?

The ocean is just a Phoenix infinite ocean. There is no distortion when the camera is brought above the surface.

Ihno said that the underwater glasses option resolves the problem, is it not working in your case?

I'm not sure where to find this option, but I imagine it could help.

If you have the right version you´ll find it in the rendering rollout of the simulator.
I dont know if its in the latest stable version... but you´ll find it at least in the nightly builds.
Ask the support for nightly access if you haven´t yet.
You´ll have to add environment fog or something similar to get the underwater feeling back.

Ok, thanks for that. I'm waiting on access to the nightly, so once I get that I will give it a crack. It's not in the latest stable version from what I can tell (2.2).
