  • excluded forces still affect sim

seems like a water sim file i'm working with only excluded some space warps and pfd turbulence helpers after i deleted them from the scene. a bug perhaps, or does the exclude list only work for geometry? thanks much.

i was unable to reproduce the problem with simple scene, it behaves as expected. can you send scene that produces the problem?

Hello! We got the scene and checked it using nightly '058 and the latest, but couldn't find any difference if all the forces are hidden, explicitly excluded, or deleted. If any force interacts, it will be listed below the exclude/include list. Can you screenshot the difference you are getting?

Thanks very much. I included some .avi previews with the scene file that show what I was getting, however I also received a support email and I believe this explains it:

"When you have hidden objects in exclude list and exclude hidden objects check you exclude them from the exclude list."

I had them both hidden and also excluded and the result of the equation was that they were 'included'. That wasn't expected. I'll avoid doing that from now on. Just a thought - that might sneak up on users who normally would find no harm in hiding objects to clear up the viewport - that in this case it would actually 'include' an object in a sim. Perhaps remove that functionality?.. so that excluded is truly excluded regardless of being hidden or not.

Thanks again for the time spent.

well, both the options do not invert each other, the result still must be lack of interaction. svetlin said that comparing your results with the result produced when the sources are deleted there is no difference, this means the forces are not affecting the simulation.

Yes, the support guys got a little confused on that one. If you choose "exclude hidden" objects, the hidden objects are excluded no matter what.

We saw the videos, but couldn't figure what's wrong. If I understand correctly, you have different behavior when you have the objects excluded and deleted. Can you screenshot this difference?

hi Svetlin, sorry overlooked this one. basically the mesh-only .avi preview 'side view' shows the mesh getting wildly pushed around over the course of the splash. with the spacewarps deleted completely, the splash is fairly calm, much like your 'box splash into ocean' video

Can you attach a screenshot with the difference?

here is a screenshot showing what i was getting (left side; showing sim blown around) and what i'm now getting after opening the same scene today (right side; calm regular splash with no turbulence). the problem seems resolved. not sure if it was from one of the nightlies or just a fluke. i guess i'll call that fixed! thanks guys.

Nice, there was a wave of bugs in the nightlies the last weeks and we fixed a lot of stuff, hope this one is in it too. If the issue appears again, give us a shout
