  • FLIP solver flickering

I have started using the FLIP solver from the nightly build to sim fluid. I get some nice flud motion but have not been able to remove the artefacts in the surface or the flickering on the edges where the fluid comes into contact with other solid objects.

This is an extreme case: https://vimeo.com/119187624 password: phoenix

With tweaking I have reduced this but not removed it. What is going on here? What attributes need to be changed to remove these issues - would love to have an updated tutorial.

there was another thread with similar issue, that is already fixed, try the today's build and if the problem persist send us the scene

This is a different issue, but i downloaded todays build and noticed that the sim was working as if 'strong surfaces mode' was turned off, so i cancelled it to check and there's no button for it anymore... has this moved somewhere else?

yes I noticed that as well so I set the sharpness to 0 but it doesn't help much, so I set it to .4 in order not to lose detail. I believe that was what strong surface mode did.

I have increased the resolution of the grid to 14 million (which seems excessive for a sim of this simplicity), reduced the viscosity (which I would prefer not to do), meshsmooth to 2 and changed the isosurface value to .4 and it reduces the flickering, but it is still there and noticeable.

the option strong surface is hidden, because hopefully the liquids will be simulated with the flip solver only. you can access it by the listener, type $.strongsurf=1.

magilla, can you send the scene? i think it's a settings problem if the new build is not helping. btw, the issue fixed this week was related to the geometry, it happens because some cells where the geometry is too thin are processed wrongly (thay are always a problem). in the new core we will try to remove the requirement for two cells wide geometry, but internally the thin geometry is processed in very complicated way, so it's always good practice to avoid the thin geometry, i'm sure the bug reports related to the thin geometry will continue to arise.

I can't use the new build, using 25533 - no time to roll it out. Will send a file tomorrow - cheers
