    Ok, I take back what I wrote before. I created a test scene and I can't reproduce the behavior. The jet looks a bit different but not very much. The particle count goes from ~2600 (SPF 1) to ~2400 (SPF3).
    Maybe I changed something else in my original scene that introduced this behavior.

      well, the lower spf can produce straight jet, this behavior is expected
