the ortho render quality is what i am after, but rendered with a perspective camera.
i can't seem to replicate the look/quality with point size or exposure, any ideas?

Hmm, the official build is way behind on many occasions. Do you have nightly access so you can check with a latest one? Otherwise, if you could share the scene, we'll check if this behavior persists.

Thanks Svetlin, I've tested with the latest nightly (26603) and the issue is the same, ortho renders real fast and nice, while perspective and camera is slow. I have prepared a scene with a few simmed frames, i'll PM you a link now. If you would care to take a look it would be great. I really like the speed and quality of the ortho renders, should work great for wide shots, but i just can't figure out what is the difference, and how to replicate in camera or perspective....

hmm, can't PM anymore, just grab it here : www.kimgar.com/files/foamTest_nightly26603.zip

if you scrub to frame 300 there should be a few frames simmed where you can just press render and see the difference with persp/ortho

Thanks for the scene, I'll have a look - a very interesting situation indeed.

the camera view is really unusual, it looks like not a point mode, rather bubble mode.
without seeing the scene, my suggestion is that the camera is far away from the particles, and this causes the strange behavior, but this is just a shot in the dark.

Okay, found it - it's a bug with ortho, which (maybe unfortunately) means that the faster blurred version will be gone for tomorrow's nightly. If you like how it looked in ortho, maybe we could arrange for and option to transition from strict point mode to blurred point mode.

ah, nice, thanks a lot for looking into it. An option for blurred point mode would be really great, especially for wide/long shots where the detailed point renders aren't really necessary, and a 2 min decrease in rendertime is pretty significant!

the point mode is blurred by design, still not sure that only the ortho is to blame
