  • Waves out of sync between render slaves

So I'm running a couple tests on making my first Phoenix ocean and ran a test of 100 frames to my farm which currently has 6 dual Xeon's and an i7, everything was running great until I dropped the frames in to AE (After Effects) only to find the frames rendered by the i7 are what I can only describe as out of sync as the waves are different from the rest. I deleted the 15 or so frames and re rendered just those ones on the Xeon's and it came out perfect. Ive gone over the i7 machine several times looking at versions of software and plugins and everything is the same. Could it be that I can not mix the i7 with the Xeons when rendering phoenix scenes?

    *EDIT*
Ive gone over the version numbers of all the software and everything is all the same across all of the machines, Phoenix 2.20.00, V-Ray 3.30.04, max2016 (no service packs)

    Cheers,

very interesting, i still doubt that the hardware can affect the rendering, so would recommend to compare not the version, that is rarely changed, but the build id (revision), you can check it in the about box

I get different frames rendered by a random machine on most jobs submitted to backburner. I am sure it is just backburner being backburner, it truly is rubbish :P Anyway It can be different waves, different look to the reflection... any random thing each render. Just got used to resubmitting the frames from the node that caused it at that time. Been like this for years!

Wish they would have just kept backburner 2008 .. that was the last one that worked well

This is on a render slave so I can not open max, is there another way to get the build revision?

*EDIT* I just checked the log files and both say Revision:1511096441

ok, this clears the question about the version difference.
well, i remember we had already hardware dependent issue, that was fixed the summer of 2015, your build is later, it's not the same issue, very possible to be something different. will test it, fortunately have xeon and i7

Cool beans, thank you. I can re run the render here as well if you need and supply any logs and such as well that you may need.

                Hey,

Are you using defaults for the ocean texture or could you screenshot your settings otherwise? Do you have motion blur, or any render settings changed from the Phoenix defaults?

I recently fixed an issue where the foam rendered differently on different number of cores, so there might be an issue in the ocean texture as well.

                Cheers!

It is mostly default everything. I can email an archive of it, its literally just a plane and a sphere for objects. 5.9mb zip file.

*if that works PM me your email address* Never mind I have your email

When my current project is done Ill reload V-ray and Phoenix on the i7 and see if that makes a difference.

                          Hey,

So, no luck reproducing the issue so far - we ran the scene on 3 different i7 models and 2 different Xeons and we get identical sequences.

Could you try when possible to render the animation with V-Ray DR and see if the problem is still there?

EDIT: Additionally, could you try a latest Phoenix nightly - there were a lot of fixes since November...

                          Cheers!

In addition to Svetlin's post said would it be possible to send us sequence of frames so we could see how exactly the issue looks like?

ok Ill try both hopefully on Monday, I try not to update these computers too often as I have to have our IT guys in Houston remote in to install the updates and that takes half a day usually. still desperately trying to find a more automated solution for deploying the updates.
                              Cheers,
