  • Maya / Phoenix FD 3 Beta

Doing a simple simulation of filling up a cup over time and then splashing it back and forth. Small sim, nothing complex, no fast moving liquids.

    Conservation set to 40
    Steps set to 12
Lifespan of particles set to 0 (so they live forever in the sim grid).
    Cell Size = .125
    Units scale = 2.639

Everything else is default from the create tap water setup from 3.0-

Now, the bottle fills up and the emitter turns off.. The liquid sits in the bottle but slowly shrinks in size (and particle count), even though no particles are slipping out of the container and the lifespan is infinite. Any ideas? Right now I'm trying to keep the emitter on a tad to offset the particles being slowly killed off.

    Thanks,
    Clayton

    Hey,

Is this with 3.00.02? Is the liquid disappearing while the bottle is moved or continues to vanish even after it settles? There is an issue with disappearing particles in moving bodies before 3.00.02 that is supposed to be improved, but it might still happen, but if it still appears even with a still container, we should have a look at it.

    Cheers!

      Yes I'm using 3.00.02.

The liquid starts disappearing when the bottle is initially still (upon fill up) and continues to disappear while the bottle rocks back and forth gently. Also I was not able to successfully get a source to fill up initially.

I've found another solution to getting what I need without Phoenix, but this just seemed like an issue to post up. After this project set is done I'll try and get the same results and send you the scene file (as well as a screen video of what is going on).

      Best,
      Clayton

So I ended up uninstalling 3.0 and reverting back to 2.2. Attached is a scene file with the emitter object as well as the container for you to take a look at. You might need to set it up again with 3.0 (couldn't test as I have 2.2 installed now). Fill it up before the bottle starts animating (negative frames), have the bottle shake around after frame zero and the particles should slowly disappear out of the bottle even though they don't leave the sim grid. Don't know how much help the scene will be, but I said I'd provide it.
