  • Light flicker and bright voxel

I've seen a few posts about an issue I've noticed when smoke travels very near to a vray light, in which the voxels closest to the light source seem to flicker brightly and have certain very bright voxels that stand out. The suggestion I've seen was to disable the light cache speedup but that does not fully alleviate the issue in my case. I have only noticed this issue when the light source is within the voxel container and the smoke travels around it. It also seems less apparent with higher resolutions.

Unfortunately I cannot include any screenshots or scene files because it's a non-disclosed production so I apologize if this description of the issue is vague.

I have noticed that the scenes with this issue use mesh lights, so perhaps that is a factor as well. The vray documentation suggests that mesh lights may cause this w/out GI on (and I am not using GI in this case because the renders are too long with it on). I'll look into this more.

Hmm, either the speedup or the light cache in general. Is the smoke very dense or thin? If it's dense, you might switch on the Probabilistic Volumetrics option and compensate at least a bit for the slowdown from disabling the Phoenix light caching...

I'll give it a shot, thanks for the quick reply!
