  • Phoenix Pattern control

    Would it be possible to add some controls to change the foam pattern shape ? We have always those round pattern shapes and we would like to be able to change that.
    We have seen, for example, in PhoenixFDfoamTex that there is Pattern length and pattern width. Would it be something that could be implemented in the Foam tab of simulator ?
    Also, maybe there would be a way to use small textures to define shapes, as we use textures in the Bloom/Glare effects ?
    This pattern is very recognizable That's a way to see that a boat was rendered with PhoenixFD
    I have to admit that I never tried to plug a texture or an expression into pattern strength or pattern size... maybe that could create some variations.

    Any possibilities ?

    Also, another question. I totally avoided to use B2B in all my last simulations. Should we or shouldn't we ? I'm quite confused on that as I kind of remember someone (Svetlin, Ivaylo) telling me not to use B2B anymore in ocean/boat simulations.

    Hey, yes, this is already in the to-do list, I don't like how the patterns can get very boring as well.

    As for B2B - I am also not happy with it and wanna make some changes before I would advertise it for ocean sims. Right now it might cause some particles to fly off and this is not okay.

      Hi Svetlin,

      Thanks for the feedback. I tried yesterday to plug a texture into Pattern strength and/or pattern radius of foam. I think it only takes into account an average value of the texture.
      I would really love to see some enhancements on the pattern side.

        Oh yes, a texture wouldn't work right now. There's no code to support it.. yet

          - Splash amount
          - Splash Birth threshold
          - Foam on Hit amount
          - Foam birth threshold
          - foam pattern Strength
          - Foam pattern Radius

            Negative, absolutely none of these. It has to be implemented explicitly.
