  • Doesn't run for me

I get the EULA, press I agree, then a window pops up that says "VRay bench is starting" (or something like that, it happens really quick) then closes and nothing else happens. Task manager reports no applications running. Is there an error log to check somewhere? TIA

I am having a similar experience trying to run the benchmark on one of my render slave machines. It ran fine on my workstation where my license dongle resides. My network situation is a bit unusual though. Normally my slave machines have no connection to the internet. I thought maybe the benchmark required an internet connection, so I switched on the wireless connection. What's unusual about my setup is that the wireless network is completely separate from my wired network that connects my slaves to my workstation. So, my machines are connected to two networks simultaneously. Perhaps the benchmark doesn't know which network to utilize (if any)?? I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't run. I was eager to see the results though since the results posted online don't show any Kaby Lake i7 7700's yet.

      Any suggestions?

Hi all. V-Ray benchmark doesn't need a license and may be affected by network configuration only when submitting results after the render is finished, which as I understand is not your problem. Since the bench executable is not starting, I guess the problem is more likely connected to the OS version and VC runtime. Could you write your exact windows version, and whether you have installed VC14 runtime.

Also if it is convenient, you may start the bench executable with command line argument "-debug=2" and it will create a log file in %TEMP% (installer_debug_*.log) that may help us find the problem. Also, the files necessary for the benchmark to run are extracted to "%TEMP%/V-Ray Benchmark" and if the benchmark was even briefly started, it should have created two files for output and errors in this directory (vraybench.out and vraybench.err). Could you send this files if they exist and are not empty?

            Best Regards,

You don't need any internet connection to run V-Ray Benchmark. As deyan.hadzhiev said some post below, you could start Benchmark with -debug=2 option and send %TEMP% (installer_debug_*.log) log file to support@chaosgroup.com to investigate this problem. Please, add some more information about OS and hardware.

Thanks. Running win 7 pro here on my ws, those two files were empty vraybench.out and vraybench.err. Checking uninstall programs in control panel showed vc 12 installed. Downloaded 14 from here:

https://download.microsoft.com/downl...redist.x86.exe Note this is the x86 version...it ran fine on my 64 bit system, but you may want to find the 64 bit version.

                    ...and now it works...thanks.

Ok, that's good to know. We should perhaps include the vc14 runtime with the benchmark itself.

OK... I solved the issue. I didn't have a VC v14 version installed. (I checked the wrong PC accidentally the first time). The link posted earlier is for an x86 version, which most of us are using 64bit Windows, so make sure you go to the Microsoft Download site and grab the x64 version of VC 2015 update 3 RC.

It's working for me now. 2:08 for a i7 7700 with 32 gig of ram.
