New batch of Gnomon DVDs (inlcudes GI with Vray)

I have ordered a copy of this dvd too, last week.

Now I am waiting to get the packet.

I have some problems runing the dvd. I have installed quicktime 7.0.2. and acrobat reader 7.0 but when I start aplication I get message director player error, script error. continue?

Do I need something else except quick time or acrobat reader installed.

I managed to lock up the player repeatedly.. if you browse to the cd, you can just watch in quicktime..

turn on view hidden files in explorer, and browse to /bin/misc/Generic_Files/ and poke through the mov's

Hey guys... Could you please contact Gnomon and let them know you have problems? Chances are, others are having problems too, and they may have a solution.

I wrote mail to gnomon and this is their answer.

The problem is Quicktime 7.0. There is a problem with the Beta version that
both Apple and
Macromedia are aware of. Please use v. 6.5 until the final version of 7 is
released.

Chris, first of all great video...very informative

Secondly, I know this was covered, but could you explain again the
advantages of using a Vray light for your sun instead of the Direct light with Vray area shadows?

Well you could go either way, but the area light is a true area light (meaning it lights from the entire area) instead of a point light with an area shadow. Also, I find that I get better specular/reflections with the Vraylight.

actually he didnt say a point light he said a direct light. which is what i use for my sun. for a vray area light to be accurate you need to make it the size of the sun and move it as far as way as the sun is. pretty much impossible to do. a direct light is more accurate.

personally I use the IES sun. I prefer it to the direct light cause you dont have to worry about setting up the hotspot correctly to encompass your scene and so on.
