We are getting there; I want to include also the new Embree update, which works for motion blur too.

Those are not supported by Embree yet. Hopefully the new Embree version will be more precise and will support more features.
            We are working on it.

It'll be interesting to see how much of an improvement we get with AVX2 coming in the new (Haswell) Xeons next year.

We are planning to add it in RT too, but unfortunately can't give a time range for this.

                    • Hi Dedal,

Yes, it's in our "to do" list.
I hope it will be available for Maya soon.

                        • Finally I had a chance to test this...

A problem is that when I have a big opacity-mapped-surface Embree was slower(51min vs 1h5min).

                          Any ideas?

This is interesting; can you get me a scene for this to vlado@chaosgroup.com?

                            Best regards,

                            • So this is now in the latest nightly builds for V-Ray for Maya; unfortunately, only for Maya 2013 on Windows (due to compiler issues). Go to Create > V-Ray > Create/select Embree raycaster.

                              Best regards,

                              • Hi,

sounds like a nice thing ... but when I render a head with FastSSS2 the render time with the vrayNodeEmbree (BVH4 and default) is: Total sequence time 0h 10m 1.4s (601.4 s).
                                Without the vrayNodeEmbree: Total sequence time 0h 6m 46.5s (406.5 s).
I set the raycaster to default geo: static.
                                The CPU is a i7 2600k @ 4.2 Ghz.
