  • ROBOT chose Chaos Group's V-Ray renderer for Onimusha 3

ROBOT chooses Discreet 3ds max and Chaos Group V-Ray renderer for cinematic opening sequence in CAPCOM’s Onimusha 3.

Ryuichi Yagi, Director of CG at Shirogumi - "Another strength and level of excellence for 3ds max software is that you have the liberty of choosing from different renderers depending on the style of animation you are creating. For this project, after we tried several renderers to create photo realistic images, we chose V-Ray(http://www.vrayrender.com) rendering solution from Chaos Group ( http://www.chaosgroup.com ) . It can render displacement quickly, produce beautiful motion blurs, and represent photo-realistic highlights...".

An interview with the Shirogumi staff will be posted soon.

I think this is the trailer Peter is talking about. Cocolas posted this link in the off topic forum a while ago. Simply amazing.

The animation is great but you don't think that has to do with the fact that it's mocaped?

yeah, but personally I was refering to the lighting and rendering.....

I saw a documentary on the making of that animation and the general game.....and the interesting thing is....a lot of the environments that are up close aren't even CG but mockup physical models (some up to 4 or 5 feet tall) of the interiors and close up exteriors of that place (walking thing or what ever) and only the general establishing shots are CG.....the characters were comped in the live action shots of the mockup models....for some of the close ups....

very interesting stuff.....and the camera matching and comping was very well done!!

                              hair games

I am just wandering how did they made it to render ShagHair with VRay with MotionBlur. As far as we know, this is by default not possible (save geometry rendering what is extremly expencive).

Or did they use some special verison?

                              thanks
                              best regards
