I'm using one of the latest daily's and noticed a 'use local subdivs' checkbox. Is this the 'no more subdivs' option you mentioned Vlado? Seems to make my render go faster with it unchecked....1:32 vs 0:41! And less noise. So I guess if that is what that option does it also means my scene was very poorly optimized

Yes.

Well, it's the case for many of the scenes that I've seen... It's why I added the checkbox
Could you clarify this please? If you added the checkbox, then why does things go faster without checking it? What was the point then of adding it?
Changing the way people use vray, I guess being more automated. The "old" way would be to use subdivs defined by each material, light,... while the new way is to use MSR. Or I'm completely wrong since I don't have access to nightlies 'n stuff.
Morne - I think the new default is Vray takes care of subdivs for you. If you check the checkbox vray uses your materials and lights subdivs just like it usually does. So if you check it you have full control and can tweak everything, unchecked vray does its own thing. (I might be way off though - I havent tried it myself.)

Because unfortunately we do have to take care about backward compatibility The option does the right thing for new scenes, but for already existing scenes, it emulates the previous behavior for compatibility. We will add a dialog when opening old scenes asking the user whether to switch to the new settings. On the whole, wait until you get your hands on the builds before speculating about them...
