Can you send me a scene reproducing this crash ? (peter.matanov@chaosgroup.com)
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

I could be wrong, but I think procedural noise maps don't work yet in RT, I think I tried it yesterday and it did not work when I put it on the Diffuse map, so I figured it would not work on the bump either.

Some of them actually do work for color textures: Noise, Gradient, ColorCorrection, VRayUserColor, VRayMultiSubTex, MultiTexture and some others. Bump maps only work with bitmaps right now. A full list of the currently supported maps is generally available on docs.chaosgroup.com

i didnt think the docs.chaosgroup.com site had an updated feature list for the current beta versions.. seems to list the feature set of 3.20.. unless there is a page im missing.

anyway you can add the new "round corners" vray edges tex to the list of supported maps for bump. it works fine as long as you dont try to mix it with anything else.

Ah yes, the 3.30 docs are not live yet, but the internal version is already updated with the relevant features.

Is there anyway of installing beta versions alongside the official release, and what about on dr nodes also? Thanks

Beta version defaults will not be used in an old scene unless you approve it when opening the old scene. Then there is also that if you need to have more control over your scene and want to use the older way, you just uncheck the appropriate boxes and you can use the controls. Hope that helps.

                      Hey Vlado and everyone,

I have been playing around with some shader balls and doing some testing between using 3.3 defaults and tweaking some parameters and using VRay the way I always use it, in other words, tweaking materials, GI, etc. I have to say that I need to fully understand still how to use the parameters to get the best results, but it is getting some fast render times without adding a lot of test renderings, so in that regards it is also faster. However, I found that I have to increase quite high the Min Shading Rate to get clean GI which then gives me noiser reflections, so then I have to increase Min Subd to 4 and even 8 and Max Subdivs I took it up to about 60 or 80. My color threshold was at all times at .01. Meantime, the SampleRate Element shows bluer and bluer, so it is kind of pointless to use that. I have a feeling that I'm using this wrong, do you have some documentation somewhere to tweak these global settings and keep trying this out?

There is no point in increasing the MSR beyond 16; and very little point to increase it beyond 8.

We have some more optimizations to do to V-Ray to bring render times down, after which I will probably hide the MSR control by default.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

So even if scene is completely lit with GI but not the direct lighting (do not ask why ) , there will be no sense to increase MSR more than 16 ? As now sometimes i use 50 and higher.
                          Available for remote work.

Just letting you know, i've had no crashes since the new beta. (the previous crashes were also hardware related)
Last night i rendered a 18k pixels wide impression

Are you using the light cache as well? If not, then it might be a good idea to enable it.

                                Hy,
two weeks ago i've noticed that the Beta will become a final in two weeks and now there are some questions.
maybe some people have a similar setup. i'am working with vray, forest pack and testing solid rocks right now.

                                1. itoo says that vray 3.3 (which have some really good improvements, e.g. forest pack speed up) will only will be supported by forest pack 5 and fp 5 will be released in a couple of months!
conclusion is to stay with 3.2 an wait a couple of months that fp 5 will be released? reallly?

                                2. i've tested the 3.3 beta and solid rocks crashed...

how you guys dealing wiht that?

                                greets phil
