It could be that if you make a matte material we don't reflect that during active shade right away - you have to restart it in order this to take effect. The reason for that is that in order the matte to work we change a bit the way the whole render works.
In the future we could probably update the active shade session properly when matte material is added, but for now it will be good to at least add print a warning about that. Note added.

    Best,

Vlado, just a little bump - any comment on these icons?

Using letters in this way is generally considered confusing.

I try that and it works. But when I start active shade as viewport window, its not working - plane is visible.

You don't say? Now that's something I've never heard of in 30 years of doing this.

You learn something new every day...

                Thanks Vlado,

It works when you use RT/GPU as the Production Renderer...see earlier posts in this thread...

Do I need to install the new license server to run the 3.5 beta, or can I try it out using our existing license server? I don't want to mess up other people working on our network.
                    Thanks!

You can use your existing server without issues. The new server is only needed if you want to try out the online licensing.

I have a file which I imported from Sketchup into Max 2016, so it is full of Arch & Design materials. I noticed that these are showing up as black in the material editor slots with beta 3.5 installed. The interesting thing is that when doing an actual rendering, they rendered properly. I did have V-Ray selected as the render engine for the material editor. I reverted back to V-Ray 3.4 again and the Arch & Design materials display normally again. Has anyone else had this problem?

                            HA!

Well, if you read it on the internet, it must be....well, you know the rest...

Honestly, I think they look good and not confusing at all...but then again, I made 'em!

                            It's all good...

What is "object picking from VfB"?

Or is it just literally what it sounds like, being able to click in the vfb to select the object in the actual scene?

                                Hello,

Yes it is that - while running Active Shade you can click in the vfb and select objects in the scene.

                                Best regards,
