I would like to add my support on this as well. We were on Max 2009 up until last year (!) and to be honest, the only reason I upgraded was because models purchased from Turbosquid were increasingly difficult to support in 2009. Right before they implemented their rental policy I upgraded to 4 perpetual cuts of Max 2016. Llike others have mentioned, I will NOT be jumping on the Autodesk rental scheme anytime soon (or ever). I will probably stick with Max 2016 indefinitely and the only thing stopping that would be third party plugins like VRay that stop supporting older versions. For that reason, I too encourage you to consider this in and provide version of VRay for older versions of Max.
Like most users around the globe, I too am not a fan of Autodesk. I do not intend to give them money annually for features I do not want nor need.
