  • Question regarding textures and PBR materials

    Huh Hello,

First, I hope I posted this in the right section of the forums.

Recently I've started updating some textures and most textures I've found (which are free to use) include a set of: "Albedo/diffuse", "roughness", "Bump" or "height" and the "Ambient occlusion" map.
I know where I'd have to put the albedo, rougness and bump maps, but the ambient occlusion I have honestly no idea. Even if I somehow manage to use all the maps, the endresult is far from good.
Any tips how to solve this, or should I adjust the maps?

Add AO and Albedo to a Vray Comp Tex on multiply. AO just adds a little more shadow effect, sometimes too much

AO maps sometimes attempt to imitate the effects of occlusion from environment lighting rather than actual shading effects like dirt accumulating in the corners of surfaces, so it may be unnecessary to use them with a GI-enabled renderer. It mostly depends on the author's intention.

      Best regards,
      Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
