  • Rendering looks flat

I´m working with vray next, Ir+Lc irradiance map on preset high and light cache with 2000sub noise trshold 0,003 global dmc 0,003 2500x1200px
still my rendering looks kinf´d of flat in my opinion,
i do add passes like vray dirt in postrendering but still it looks very flat when it comes out from here despite the fact that it has been rendering for 16hrs
any ideas on how to improve my renderings?
I usually like to use vray next gpu which works very fast for me but it doesn´t support frensel reflection so i use vray next.

You're going to want to turn all your lights off and slowly turn groups of lights on, one at a time while rendering to see how they're affecting the scene. Maybe there are some light materials that don't need to emit light or need to be turned down. Another option is to group various types of lights into light select elements that you can look at to see how different groups of light are affecting the scene.

This looks very odd, its so evenly lit.. do you have an ambient light in there? If yes, turn it off.

Yes its an unrealistic light source it will light everything evenly. You'll probably get a pretty dark image when you tun it off.
But you'll get a way better image when you relight the scene using only the other lightscources of vray.
What do you mean by "doesn´t support frensel reflection" this isn't true.
The reflections of all vray shaders are in fact frensel reflections. No need for the falloff node (if thats what you're doing).

Jea, I couldn't live without it anymore
Unfortunately the guy who wrote it isn't here anymore.
I'll have to lern Maxscript to get the new modes from next in there.
I hope I'll find the time soon. But it still works and the full mode is the most important one anyway.

It is probably something to do with your lighting like what is been pointed above.
For render settings, you really don't need to change any of the global dmc settings.
Try these settings, they should work better/faster for your scene.. Reset everything to default first
              Sampler type, Bucket
              Min subdvis 0
              Max subdivs 32
              Min shading rate 16
              noise threshold .008
Make sure use local subdivs is off
Primary GI is BF and secondry GI is LC with subdivs of 2000
              dynamic memory limit 0

but it doesn´t support frensel reflection
It does support frensel reflections since first version.
If you mean glossy frensel, it is now supported on GPU

thank you very much, yes indeed it was the ambient light now i have to reconsider all my lighting because it is dark but better i guess,
sorry for the stupid question but how an i update my vray and of what version are you talking about

                  I'm talking about Vray 4.02.04 ..
Vray next GPU supports glossy frensel and frensel reflections.
Vray next CPU should work too, using the settings I mentioned above.

strange thats exactly the version i have installed,
but when i use any kind of metal for instance sighershaders brass copper or simmilar i get only black when rendering with gpu

So they render fine with Vray CPU and they render black with Vray GPU?
This is not supposed to happen with RT GPU
Maybe you are running out of VRAM?
It would be better to create a new thread in the problems section and share a simple scene where you get the black results with metals
Devs will be able to tell why you are getting black results

the older sigershaders are NOT compatible with GPU. You have to get upgrade to the newer ones in the siger XSMP pack,or make your own
