You need to convert them to vrmesh files. To do this, you need a converter which you can download in the vray registred users area (docs section!!!)

Just out of curiosity on the HT issues are your systems either Dells or based on a intel made MB?

I've downloaded the converter and I am trying to use it with the bunny file, but the only thing I get is a window that pops-up and closes very quickly.

Focusing, you need to open the exe through the command prompt and type the path en ply2vrmesh.exe
It's in the help file!

Can you drag and drop the model into the converter ala Windows? Some proggies work that way. Too lazy to download it/test right now...

don't think so, you really have to type in the exe, the filename and the new filename, with extensions. It's all in command prompt, don't think you can drag anything in there

New problem.

It all renders fine, but when I turned up the IR map settings to render a final version, during pass 2 the CPU dropped to 0 again. I can click cancel, but max doesn't react anymore. Memory usage was around 600Mb.

I used these settings:
min/max=-4/-1
clr=0.3
nrm=0.1
dist=0.0

hsph=50
interp=20

QMC for second bounce, 8 samples, 3 bounces.

Yep, I think I found out what's causing this; I've left some renders overnight to see how it goes.
