What is the math behind the bokeh anisotropy? Does the value -0.5 correlate to 2x anamorphic?

If you want the ratio of the height to width of the bokeh to be k:1, then the value for anisotropy should be sqrt(1/k)-1; for anamorphic bokeh which is 2.39:1, the anisotropy should be -0.353 which is about what you found out.
