  • Annoying noise

I have a prob on rendering an animation : can't get rid of noise all over the image.
This is "fixed" other time. I mean when playing the animation the noise don't move and seems to be like a "filter" on top of the image.
Look especially under the tables, but it's present all over the images.
I tried all param I know with no success :
    - turn of reflection
    - turn of shadow (not very visible but noise is still present)
    - raise sec. ray bias
    - change sampler and filter
    - preset verylow to very high
    - Hsph subdiv
    - QMC subdiv or sec bounces
    - QMC sampler adap amount or noise threshold
(There's only shadow map in the scene)

    Any help ???
    Regards, Fabrice.

does unchecking "time independent" in the QMC sampler help?

That's one of the few things I didn't tried.
I do the test and tell you...

I found a solution (playing with setting in order to solve something else...).
Increasing Image sampler/adaptive subdiv/Min rate value from-1 to 0 solve the problem...
            but it's 4 time longer

Now 1 question : For me antialias act on edges of objects, not on the GI "blotches" surface distribution ... soneone has an explaination to this mistery ?

Note : Rerender, unchecking "time independent" didn't changed anything.

              A rectification :
it seems to be the threshold more than the min rate that eliminate blotches on uniform surfaces.
I use 0.02 instead of 0.1 default value for a 2 time longer rendering,
it seems clean enough but I have to test it further in animation.

Well, the "Time-independent" option will only make the noise change from frame to frame so that it is not as obvious.

If you want to reduce the noise, you will need to 1) reduce the Noise threshold in the QMC Sampler rollout and/or 2) increase the Subdivs for your area lights (either in the light itself or through the Global subdivs multiplier in the QMC sampler rollout).

In any case, reducing the noise is going to increase the render time.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

In fact I do have a Vray lamp that causes this noise.
So (thanks Vlado) increases its sampling subdiv reduce the noise.

But, as I said earlier, the antialiasing (adaptive subdiv) param also have an effect on this noise... and for antialias act on borders of geometry not on surfaces...strange...
