  • G-buffer passes for comping

OK first time I've tried rendering passes out from Vray and getting stuck.

have searched forum but can someone spare two mins to explain or refer me to a topic dealing with this?

Basically used max scanline with render elements till now and wondered how I can achieve the same kind of result:

I have a scene with no direct lighting other than an omni with only specular checked, and want to render out a defuse pass self illumination pass and Z-Depth.

is there anything I should make sure I'm doing in order for the specular and Self illuminated passes not to render black and for the Z-depth not to be blotchy around fine detailed geometry?

so far all wanted passes are ticked in g-buffer save separate g-buffer passes separately checked.

I'm however not using Vray materials will this affect the outcome?

    Hello!

You must use vray materials in order to avoid black renders of elements. Try rendering to RPF files, checking the channels u want to render, and then use Combustion or After effects to import the footage. Then, you can apply 3D POST filters, one of them being Z-Depth. This method, however, has its drawbacks because 3d post filters are not accurate at all. So u may consider third party plugins like LENSCARE, which can extract a nicer result from your z-depth directly from vray. You can even animate the depth of field to achieve interesting results too.

If you need to composite different passes, let´s say, diffuse, reflections, and global illumination, follow the instructions in the members restricted help area. There u can find helpful info about how the layers must be composited in order to get a similar result to RGB color render (the usual straight render). Basically it´s a combination of ADD and MULTIPLY blending modes.

    Cheers!
