  • Darn RedDots - I curse them!

    And here we are again:
I got the scene, modeled the objects, animated them etc. Rendered a test, what do I see? red dots. Went in, made sure I dont have any wierd 3rd party messing up the scene, applied cropping to all maps using that cropping script. Rendered and they are still there. Vray log doesnt say anything about overbrightened mat or anything...I must know how to solve it before we start rendering for production - or my head is off my shoulders.
    Please help.

let me check...the thing is that red dots appear on the container itself so it seems to me that its texture/shader is causing it.

If you send me an email to vlado@chaosgroup.com, I can get you a patch that will most probably make them go away.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

            is this the 'ward' thing?
got it on a couple of mine too until i stopped using ward.

i guess there'll be a .16 to sort this out soon?

I found strange red artifacts in some renders using 1.45

When I changed to 1.46.16 they disappeared but, rendering was longer.

                      Yellow Dots

I was getting yellow dots in a scene recently. I had to go in and remove them by hand from all of the cursed frames since I couldn't find a way to make them stop.

I had really bad dots before I removed an architectural glass material from the scene. I suspect that my yellow dots were coming from some other bad material, but I couldn't find it. Maybe it was an object without material... don't know.

My dots were exactly the same as yours, though (well, other than the color). They randomly showed up throughout the animation.

I got them as well, even on surfaces with no glossy effects ie the wall behing the picture. the materials are set to blinn. using 1.46.15.

It usually shows up on glossy materials

ps excuse the render quality, still fiddling with this sucker

I'm starting to think that my spots were, in fact, red. I got some yellow blotches because of a bad material in the same scene, but I think the spots were red. Not that it matters - spots are spots.

Do the spots go away if you use the material over-ride and give your entire scene a standard material? I think they are material related.
