compositing lens effects

Can anybody share tips for compositing Lens Effects? I just found out there's no alpha information for the effects. And I've looked for a Lens Effects render element but if it is there it isn't immediately obvious.

They need to be added. Change the layer mode to add in AE.
You can add a lens effects elemend by changing the dropdown in the lens effects rollout from 'image only' to 'image and render element.'

The manual isn't very detailed on this ....

"Mode – Determines if the Bloom/Glare effect will be applied to the final image (in the effectsResult channel), stored into a separate render element, or both."


Where will the "effectsResult channel" be? Only in a V-Ray RAW output? And which render element is it output as?

You can find all the render element channels in the top rollout in the VFB (image attached)

For the glare mode, if you select:

"Image only" it will only show in "effectsResult"
"Image and render element" it will show in "effectsResult" and will create a "Glare" render element
"Render element only" will only create a "Glare" render element.

You can use this glare render element to composite in photoshop, using a blending mode like lighten
