  • How to render fabric in high detail

    Hi guys,
I have pixel peeping clients so I've been trying to make my fabrics look more detailed. I have high quality textures from Arroway and somehow they looked a bit smudged because they are usually far from camera so it kinda makes sense. But other than lowering noise and increasing sample rate (which I tried) what else can I do? I feel like playing with these settings has no effect. Maybe it's lanczos too, I use the default 2 setting. Tried using both normal and bump for the material but didn't get what I was after. Also tried increasing subdivision multiplier only for that object but no effect (I guess that does something else).

One more thing - is there such a thing as a fast white curtain material? I use classic falloff refraction plus 2 sided material and it really takes long time to render.

    Thanks!

    Hi Crayox13

If you could attach a sample so we can see how smudged the fabrics, it would help us - also maybe share your render setup. But generally noise threshold/max. subdivs should suffice in getting high quality results. Are you using denoiser? Could you share an example of what you want to achieve?

You can check the following article on Quality vs Render time: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...s.+Render+Time

Moreover, we've prepared a great tutorial on How to Make Translucent Fabric, which may help you with the curtain materials you are after: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...slucent+Fabric

      Hi,
thanks for your help! Here's a sample without the denoiser. I'm talking about the bench on the right. Increasing samples mostly cleans it up but without adding details. I'll try your suggestions too.
This is with default render setting on vray Next.

I'm also sending the texture/effect I'm trying to accomplish. I only used Arroways diffuse and bump for this material.
      Thanks again!

I increased the bump on the fabric and it looks better now, but under 0.005 and 1/64 settings. Under these setting should it look better from that distance?
