hi all, im doing a space shot, and need the earth, looking lovely.. got a very nice high res textured model set up, but the atmosphere is somewhat limited. i can get a reasonable effect in sunlight with gradient ramps and opacity.. however its missing the nice scattering and sunrise/sunset reddening, and when rim lit it falls apart completely.

im guessing i could do something with vrayscattervolume, or env fog however so far my tests are coming up short.

if i set the scattering colour to a sky blue i get green in the rim lighting rather than red.. and i have no idea what to set the subsurface colour to. i also dont get a soft edge where it fades into space, just a hard edge on the atmosphere sphere. any suggestions?

so i have something looking nice which does the colour shift with rim lighting which i want. (using vrayscattervolume) .. HOWEVER, the real atmosphere exponentially reduces in density as altitude increases.. this is what gives the soft falloff in opacity of the atmosphere. i have found no way to do this using the scattervolume material. if i put it in a blendmtl, i can use a falloff map to blend it to another material on the edges, but if that material is refractive or has no opacity, it stops having any effect. any ideas on how to get a nice fade out in opacity at the edges?

I think if you uploaded some pictures it would be easier to understand what kind of issue you are having

The only way I've managed to do this in the past was to use spheregizmos with fog
