  • Dome light HDRI texture in Max viewport?

Is there a way to view a vray dome light HDRI texture in Max viewport? I was wondering if this is possible with the new viewport improvements.

side note: I generally like to run mh HDRI through an output map, which I use as a switcher slate material editor. This way I can instance the output to the dome light and have a few HDRI in slate that i can easily swap by going through the output. But this doesn't work in the viewport using the environment slot. It looks at the output map, not the HDRI routing through it. The viewport just shows black.

The environment map slot is usually used for HDRI previews. The output node indeed does not generate a preview (this seems like a 3ds Max thing, happens with Scanline as well). A color correction node, however, does seem to work and can be used as a 'switcher'.

I found a decent solution!!! The OSL '1 of N (color)' switcher can be used for this purpose, and it pases the hdri through to both the dome light and the environment slot for viewport. This is a fully viable solution. Even better you can use Vray bitmaps in the switcher or the OSL hdri loader. This is great as i prefer to use the Vray bitmap.

Can you go into more detail on how to do this? In my attempt the BG comes out much lighter and more pixelated even though BG is set to forground
