Hi all,
My workstation has been doing fine for me, particularly with the newer versions of Vray. Currently i am using 3dsmax 2020 and Vray 5.0. Things have come a long way since 10 years ago. Now, 5-10 minute render times are just fine for me.
For various reason, i need to purchase a new workstation. Right now i am using a Dell T7500 with Dual Xeon 3.47 ghz (x5690) processors and 96 gb RAM. With an SSD drive and a Quadro M4000 card. I am driving a 4k new monitor. I prepare mostly 5-10 renders for each project (mostly swimming pool and landscape renders) and i usually use progressive rendering and set the time per render to 5-20 minutes. And, it works really well for me.
I am a little lost with all of the newer models of Dell workstations (i am a dell fan) and the various video card choices, etc. I realize setting a budget is a good place to start. I looked at Bobby's setup and unless i am wrong that is one pricey setup! Should i expect a really noticeable improvement over my current setup? Or only incremental? Probably my biggest issues that could use improvement are viewport and interface performance and draft rendering.
So for somewhere between $1.5k-$3k, what would you suggest (i typically purchase used from eBay with good success). 2 procs with a low ghz? 1 proc with a high ghz? Which Dell model? Chip? what kind of video card?
Here is a typical render for me.
TIA for any ideas. Kinda baffling on how to figure this out.
