  • Is there a RAL library for V-Ray?

Looking for a good RAL color library. Anybody found it?

Try this one frome the Faction:

    https://thefactioncgi.com/the-factio...es-for-3ds-max

Not sure if it directly works with VRay as I havent tested it, but I dont see a reason it wouldnt. Anycase, it will be simple enough to pick the colour and copy/paste it over to your diffuse

They're also busy refining the script and an update coming soon will also give you 5 complimenatry colours based on the color you pick....
    Kind Regards,

anyway, i never managed to get a proper ral correspondance between the color you set up, and the color you get in the final render (once you want to use filmic, ocio, aces etc, it never matches...) it's mainly a problem when the client wants a very specific color, or if they have a very specific advertisement image they use, they always complain it's doesn't perfectly matches their original color or image

Yep, that true for any color, not just RAL. Thats what you have multimattes for the various colors so you can easily adjust in post to closer get what you need.

yeah well i usually try to set up things so that they are "real life", and just hit render (almost no post)

There is a very easy solution to that: set value of all material/map channels to zero and make them 100% luminous, then you have the exact RAL-color

If your clients only want exact colors, these do not make sense I then wonder if VRay makes sense at all. In these cases where only certain parts need exact colors and you really don't want to use post, you're shooting yourself in the foot...both in terms of time and grey hairs.
I had these clients too, but explaining them that showing exact colors is a dangerous thing because in real life they will NOT be that exact and consequently lead to new complaints, drastically changed their mind. Each client needs intelligent disclaimers, because we are not offering them an exact world, even if it seems like that.
But that is in archviz. In studio environments you can get away by using neutral lighting, neutral refl/refr environments and...neutral ocio/luts/filmic, resulting in very close resemblance.

I deal a lot with advertising clients who are concerned with maintaining brand identity/colors. Add a DiffuseFilter render element to get the straight colors, then composite with "color" blending mode. Usually this gets me close enough.
