  • Material Editor Sample Sphere Channel...

Anyone know a way to change the map channel on the sample sphere in the material editor? I've created some multi-sub materials with multiple UV mapping channels, but for some reason when I change the channel to anything other than 1 the material editor shows only the RGB color in the diffuse slot, instead of the map.

So far my workaround has been to copy the map into an unused slot in the material, and set that to 1 while keeping the diffuse map on whatever the actual UV channel is.

I don't think you can change the mapping or map channel of the default sphere. However, if you right click on one of the spheres and select options, you can then assign a 'custom sample object' instead of the default sphere.

You need to start with an empty scene then create an object (less than 100 units in size) with the correct number of material IDs for your material and then apply multiple UVW modifiers, one for each map channel.

Save the scene and then use it in the material editor. Remember to change from the default sphere by holding down the flyout at the top right of the material editor and selecting the custom option.

If you have any problems there is a MAX help topic "Creating a Custom Sample Object"

    Hope it works!

Maybe this function could be added to Vray somehow? When using the default scanline it displays whatever the diffuse channel is regardless of the map channel.
