  • Precalc with backburner

I'm finally running into projects where the differing solutions are creating noticable striping on backburner projects. (Previously, the differences have been negligible.)

Would my solution be the old precalc GI on one machine, then specify that file for backburner use?

And if so, could someone spell out what does and does not need to be turned on.

As I remember/understand it, first I delete the current solution. Then set it to save IR to file. Then turn off "render final image". Then either leave settings as I want them for final, or cut image size in half. Render it out (actually calc only). Then set to "use IR map", adjust image size and turn render back on.

Is this much right? Let me know if I missed something.

    Specific questions:

    - I seem to recall that I disable second bounce when using stored map. Is that right?

    - Is there any benefit to turning off displacement, reflections, or anything else during calc phase?

    - Any other tricks?

(By the way, currently using IR+LC)]

    Thanks!

The tutorials in the support section should answer all of your questions.

You don't need to delete the current solution if you use "Multiframe Incremental." The other incremental choice, "Incremental add to current frame," is exactly the same as "Multiframe incremental" except that it uses your current solution and builds on it. This is probably the one you were thinking of when you mentioned deleting the current solution.

I don't think you have missed anything in your process, but I would still strongly encourage you to have a look at the tutorials - especially the one on rendering a walkthrough animation. It introduces a slightly different process using the lightcache that you may find quite usefull.
