  • Benchmarking - how 'bout a new round...

Is anyone up for a new round of benchmarking a scene with all of the x64, dual-core cpus floating around now.

I'd like to see how things are comparing.

neoVisual created a great benchmark scene that people were using with 1.46.10 -- maybe that could be the standard?

haha funny. I was just thinking the same thing the other day when I was 3d doodling. I have a pretty intense cornell box scene I could donate. Glossies, reflections, refractions, the works.

              $$$

the EE is only some percent faster but over 3x more expensive. If I was only building a couple of boxes I might reconsider but 20 of these should make a nice addition to the farm.

                Anyone got any links?

The stuff I have seen so far is that the Dual core Opterons are wasted by most software - actually slower than dual Opterons of the same clock speed because of poor software implementation.

However, Vray is amongst the very best I have seen in using multiple CPUs, so I am keen to see if Vray is an exception.

The new dual core Athlon 64 X2 looks promising... but I want to see VRAY scores!

                        okay heres the file: http://myweb.cableone.net/amylenhart/cornelltest.zip

Its a max 6 file. I would ask that you just open and render and not mess with the settings so that its the same for everyone. I purposely made the settings pretty close to default. Its also already setup to show a stamp in the vfb with vray version, cpu, memory and all that. It should take a bit to chug through so that we have a wider representation of rendertimes.

                            Dual Xeon benchmark

                            here's mine:
                            dual xeon, max 7, VRay 1.47.03, 1h 11m.
I changed the size of the frame stamp font, hope it doesn't affect the rendertimes much
