Pentium D 820 vs Dual Xeon 3.06 533Mhz
Pentium D 820 at 2.8 Ghz 2048Mb Ram on Asus P5WD2
I have Tried to overclock it but it become too hot and performance will be worse than not overclocked... Intel boxed fan is slow 1800Rpm Max...
But at 2.8Ghz it give 73% of the performacne of my old dual xeon 3.06 Ghz 533Mhz
info: "the Pentium D 820 830 and 840 is not HyperThreaded, Maybe this is why it perform slower than Xeon at same clock speed"
2x Pentium Xeon 3.06 Ghz 2048Mb Ecc Ram on Tyan S2668 Tiger i7505

Do you suppose the X2s have something to do with Max/Vray not properly using the new architecture??? And are these X2s Opteron-Flavored or plain Athlon 64s?
Comment

Yeah - going through the bench all the X2s seem like regular Athlon 64 X2s - still twice the performance of my aging 64bit 3200.
Has anyone got their hands on the opteron class X2s?

You mean the dual core opterons? 265, 270 and 275.
Someone already posted on the benchmark thread with a set of Opteron 275's (dual core)
The x2's are one thing, and the dual core opterons are another.
There is no opteron class x2 as such.
They may have their similarites but still different kettle of fish.

Ah my mistake. I thought 275s came in regular flavor but thought wrong.
So lesson learned - according to our benches the Dual Dual-Core 275s from Davison's is still the fastest out there - but at a significant cost for now ($1328 pricewatchcom.) Second coming is the Xeon 3.0s at about $1000 less for each processor ($252 800FSB pricewatch.com.) Correct? According to all the marketing hpye - it just doesn't seem right...

Well I ran mine on this Benchmark, and found my results are more comparable. I think I will re-run it again and see what I get.
Thanks
