I found an old thread (2014 iirc) that had a question about how to do a render to texture with vray displacement enabled (it mentioned it works in maya but not in max yet, at the time). I'm wondering if this was ever implemented at all? If I make a teapot and apply noise as displacement, then put a light near it and try to bake the lighting, I get a smooth surface in RTT. So I'm guessing either I'm doing something horribly wrong, or it doesn't work?
