  • Creating Pavement texture

    Hi,

    I'm trying to create a vray paving material that every tile is 600mm high but varying widths of 450mm, 600mm & 750mm.

    See images for example. Sorry about the Low quality images.

      Very interesting. I'll have to have a look at that. seems quite useful.

      I'd rather not purchase another piece of software though and create it just using 3ds max.

        Bercontile and multitexture is free and can do that
        (although all features only work if you render with CPU. If you render with GPU, you'll likely end up with issues using bercontile)

          One method I used for these; model and lay out the pavers, create a good shader for them and either use the geometry or simply
          render a large top view to get a big non-tiling map.

            Absouletly. I think I'll go with that method. In Zbrush you can do this too while maintaining a tiled map. So might go that route.

              Actually the free version of Railclone will do this very easily, so maybe just use that for the layout.

                There is also a free script called Stone placement tools. Have not used it much so unsure how well suited it is for this task : http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...lacement-tools .

                  All,

                  Those are all amazing. Hopefully I can find the best approach for my work.

                  I usually get CAD drawings and the shapes can be quite awkward. Highlighted in cyan here are where the tiles need to be. Other parts are tactile and tarmac etc

                  So I usually keep to textures rather than 3d as 3d can sometimes create odd errors.

                    That will not allow you to be precise about the measurements, whereas Railclone will do that effortlessly.
                    If you maybe wanted to randomise the resulting mesh to get some rotation per element, then Joker Martini's randomiser
                    is great for that. Maybe overkill for these tiles you want though

                      fixeighted thanks a million. Funny enough I just got raiclone Pro about 3 weeks ago. The problem is finding the time to learn it. I haven't had time to deep dive into it and learn it yet. I just have to block out some time for it and then i'll be flying.

                        LOL, ok, so problem solved and you can have this file with a simple setup of these tiles
                        I had to do a stadium full of people so I bought a seat of Railclone purely for that....wow was that a stressy few days, though
                        the iToo guys are extrmely helpful and will help set up anything you have issues with.
                        It's a somewhat steep learning curve but comes in very handy for many simple things too

                              That works very well.

                              Have to learn a bit more about railclone now as this works for flat surfaces.....

                              but then it doesn't follow the Z value so I create a surface for it but as you can see when it goes past the edges of the surface it flips out ha, again this is just me not knowing railclone well enough so I'll probably test some things out and move my conversation onto forest pro forums.
