..But - it still pretty much expensive to move on to this damn good platform, as you need high clocked DDR2 RAM + new motherboard + and of course CPU, which are just paper-announced right now.
They're not 'paper announced' they're available...
Varoius reviews I've read say the older chipset and older DDR work very well with only a very small speed penalty - still of course they weren't testing vray
okey now I can die here are the test of 6700 with stock and different OC. Thanks lopri form anandtech .
E6700
Stock (2.66GHz, 10x266) / DDR2-800 (2:3): 3mins 53.5secs
OC (3.60GHz, 10x360) / DDR2-900 (4:5): 2mins 53.7secs
I don't think it is worth the exra 220€, but that's just me..
You can aparently overclock as good on the E6600 as the E6700, so that's no motivation.
And the E6600 should easily run at 2.66ghz, if you want the speed of a E6700....
Your tests also show, once again, how little impact the faster, more expansive ram has on the rendertime.

I'm no expert, but I don't think this is the scene to test RAM. This is a processor testing scene. If you want to test the RAM, let's scatter 10,000 trees in there.
Ya, you're running into the same problem I had with the original 3dluvr max benchmarks! What started out taking 20 minutes, ended up finishing in less then 1! Really gives you an idea of technology advancement over time!
If anyone figures out how to get the benchmark to run in max5.1, send me a pm .
My E6600 is pushing 3.21 ghz now and I'm really curious as to its performance.
