  • Max Fluids motion blur with vray 5

    Hello folks,

I'm doing some water simulation using max fluids and rendering with v-ray5, but somehow, motion blur is taking the wrong axis of the velocity channel. Has anyone experienced something like this? Testing in Arnold motion blur is working properly.
[EDIT] I've tested in Max 2022 and Max 2023 with the latest release of v-ray with same results.

I found a thread here giving a suggestion about the velocity channel in the liquid v-ray proprieties. I've tried channel 0, 1 and 2 in both the solver and the proprieties, no luck.

Could you send the scene via the contact form (or attach it here) so we can take a look? Mention me and include a link to this thread.

Thanks hermit.crab ! I attached the file here, just plug any HDRI in the dome map for lighting. There's nothing but the liquid, camera and dome in the scene. Thanks!!

Thanks for the provided file. It seems we have the issue already logged (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-10213). Unfortunately, I'm unsure if there are workarounds.

            Hello!

I'm still struggling on this one. Does anyone know how any workaround? I have tried to simulate the fluids on Blender and bringing an alembic file from there as a v-ray proxy object, but it doesn't carry the velocity channel over (I guess). Is there any way to have correct fluids motion blur using v-ray other than use Chaos Phoenix? I've already done the trial last year so I can't test it anymore. I don't want to subscribe to it since my use of fluids is very sporadic to justify the price.

If anyone successfully use Blender's Mantaflow with 3ds Max/V-Ray with motion blur, please share how to do it.

            Thanks,
            Felipe

hermit.crab any chance to get this fixed in nightly builds? Thanks!

I'll notify the devs, though I think it would take some time. Maybe you could try Phoenix FD (free trial) for now?

Thanks hermit.crab I've already done the trial last year. I've got in touch with commercial team to upgrade my license to V-Ray Collection, strange enough she said I will have to wait until my current subscription expires or pay full price. As I said, hard to justify the upgrade at this price. Maybe I could have a couple days extra for the trial, it will be great.

Nonetheless, looks like it's an easy fix. It seems that Y and Z axis is flipped in the velocity channel.

                  Thanks!
