  • Lens effects only on illuminated materials

    Hi,

I am trying to render an illuminated dashpanel using VrayBlendMtl.
Base material is black with coat materials with different VrayLightMtl using masks. Now I would like to lit all the different lights together with some Framebuffer Lens effects. Unfortunately everything (incl. white text decals) is used by the Lens effect.
How can I isolate only the illuminated parts which are using the VrayLightMtl?

Hi could you explain a bit further you workflow? Please include a few screen grabs of your VFB and material editor.

You can do this by adjusting the 'threshold' parameter.
So for example, look at the pixel value of the light material and if it is e.g 10 then set the threshold to maybe 9.
That will likely be higher than the value of all the other objects that do not need the lens effect.

Hi, how can I check the value with V-Ray 6?

Just hover the cursor over the vfb and check the values at the bottom left

The HSV or web or 8 bit?

RGB= 8 bit? got 3 value, choose the higher one?

It's just so you can see what the highest value is, so you can adjust the threshold.
So e.g. if you have 2 objects and you want only one to glare, if one object's highest pixel value in any rgb is less than the threshold value then
you adjust the second object's value to be generally higher, or adjust the values of the other object to be lower than that threshold...whichever works in the situation.

Thank you for your guide, will give a try.

Just give it a try, but I have no luck, all the 8 bit rgb value is 255, so I put 255 in the lens effect threshold, but no luck

                      PS:
Finally, I figured it out and the get result I want, thank you very much.

You need to look at the RAW values not the other ones.
                        A.

I'm set to RAW as default so I always get the correct readout, but it shouldn't really matter as it's only a comparison, unless I misunderstood what you wanted to do ofc
