  • VRayFurStyler Max 2021 error

Is there a trick to installing VRayFurStyler for Max 2021? I put the appropriate 2021 .dlo file in the plugins directory and I get an error 126 "The specified module could not be found"

I am guessing some base library needs to be installed.

    Any thoughts? For Max 2021...

    Thanks.

Yes, that mentions how to install with 2022. I found no mention of how to install with 2021, and the 2022 method did not seem to work.

      Code:
For 3ds Max versions that use the Plugin Package Format (2022 and later) the .dlo file needs to be...

Hi I can see there is something additional that has to be done for 3ds max 2022:

I tried what is described in the docs but was not able to edit the PackageContents.xml file. Let me do a little further research and I will get back to the thread. Meanwhile please read carefully the part of the docs in my screengrab above and try it yourself.

          Hello,

Are you using V-Ray 6 and trying to add the fur styler ? If so - it won't work as the one in our docs is for V-Ray 5. Other than that - you've correctly placed it in the plugins folder.

We'll try to upload a version for V-Ray 6 in the next couple of days.

          Best regards,
          Yavor

Ah, OK! That is exactly what I am doing. VRay 6.

            Thanks so much.

I'm following the documentation explicitly but still having issues. I'm using the right .dlo for Max 2023. The doc says to edit "the XML" like it's a file that exists. It's not in the download so I made my own and used the one line that the doc says. But, I have a feeling that an XML needs more than that one line to work. Do you have a sample of the XML so that I know mine has all the right code so that things will work?

The XML file must already exist - it is part of the V-Ray for 3ds Max installation. It should be located in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\VRay3ds Max2023\ and called PackageContents.xml

Coming back to this a few years later, I do now see the XML file. The documentation is pretty sparse for "non programmers" and while it gives the code, it doesn't say where to put the line. I put it in under something I felt was similar (see attached) and that didn't expose the modifier in the list. So, I put it at the end of everything. That didn't work either.

Where should the line of code go?

You are in the wrong "PackageContents.xml". The V-Ray one is located here:
                    Code:
                    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\VRay3dsMax2025\PackageContents.xml
It's written clearly on the docs page. Attaching the requested screencap.

No need for the wrist slapping, admittedly, an oversight on my end. But thank you for the screen capture. I appreciate it.
