  • Glossiness settings for command materials

    Does anyone have a list of typical glossiness settings for common materials...

    ie
    Plaster
    Painted plaster
    stucco
    brick
    concrete
    ceramic tile (matt... not glazed)
    etc

    I'm sure I've seen something on this before, but I couldn't for the life of me find it again!

    I've been using low glossies on all my materials, to good effect, but it would be nice to know the values i am using are closer to being scientifically correct.

    I have seen charts for refractive IOR, but never for glossyness. Would be interesting to see

      Since the glossiness value is nowhere near a physical property, I doubt there are charts for it. Blurred reflections/refractions are a fake for surface roughness, maybe try finding a chart for that (it won't be in a scale of 0 to 1 though...)

      You can't say how blurry the reflcetions should be on for example plastic, it all depends on how it is manufactured, with tiny textures or not etc...

        For concrete, brick... highlight glossiness would be better than glossy reflection. Render a room with concrete walls using glossy reflection use a lot a time and you are not sure to obtain a good result. Moreover,You need a lot of subdivision for glossy reflections

          what about things like wood,should fresnel be ticked.i understand that wood with a high gloss vanish wouldnt be ticked but what about things like laminates,flooring and furniture?....

            I always check fresnel. If I want it alot more reflective, I up the IOR value.

              here are some reflectance values (can't remember where I got them) and I allways fiddle with them.

              Stucco 15 - 40 %
              brick 10 - 15%
              concrete 20 - 30%

                  ya i usually use it for ALL reflective mats. even chrome.

                      mmm, interesting so at what IOR value is it not a fresnel reflection,- 10,30,50?is it affective at these high values?

                        hmmm...i think its still technically fresnel reflections. If Im not mistaken, most all objects have fresnel reflections of one sort or another. Maybe not pure reflective chrome.
