  • Denoiser VRay/Deadline Workflow

Anyone have a decent workflow setup for using the (mainly standalone) denoiser with Deadline. I am sure I can figure out how to make Deadline distributed the run of the standalone denoiser, but what are the settings for the render
elements when working with Deadline. I have noticed Deadline works much better with normal Render Elements, rather than with the VRay VFB. So I try not to use the VFB. Is there a way to get the required channels for standalone denoising without the VFB's save function?

If I do end up using the VFB to save a monolithic EXR sequence will it then denoise all 20 render elements (light selects and mattes)? But it will then put those into another monolithic EXR, and that is a bit of a pain for many reasons (Import into Fusion for one becomes cumbersome for more than a few channels).

Any suggestions for where to start testing? Of course I needed this yesterday, or I will end up rendering on AW$.

    Thanks.

    HI thanks for posting.

How do you submit your job? Is it like this:

I did a test with this submitter and it can not denoise render elements if we are using multi-layered EXR/VRIMG.
Using the standalone denoiser tool on it's own works fine for render elements.

Deadline works much better with normal Render Elements, rather than with the VRay VFB
I am not sure what you mean but there are two basic ways of saving your output
    - save all image channels to single file (multi-layered EXR/VRIMG, recommended)
    - save all image channels to separate files
It does not matter if you use the VFB buttons or not. Single file output uses a V-Ray output, while the separate files uses 3ds Max's built in output.

OK. I fixed the python plugin for Deadline so that it will now denoise all the render elements if you enable denoise elements.

Copy this to your <path-to>\DeadlineRepository10\plugins\VDenoise\ directory overwriting the old one.

Thanks for that. I tested it and it works.

Was using the VFB with Deadline recently, and had good success. Not sure what the trouble was before. I don't know if it will support jigsaw / tiled rendering, but it does let me save the monolithic EXR files for denoising.
