  • Displacement and image size

I have an exterior scene of a stone and stucco home that has been behaving just fine during the low-res modeling stages. All of the stone elements have Vray Displacement in the modifier stack. Now that I'm rendering the final resolution 3600x1800, backburner is kicking the job after 10 hours.

I know that with IR values, there are inverse relationships with image resolution. Is there also such a counter-balance with the displacement settings?

Maybe I am missing something, but I was surprised by the rendertime. Unfortunately, I was asleep when this happened, so I cannot offer a play-by-play. I have deleted the stone displacement and it's breezing along nicely.

If you were using 3d displacement, you can increase the Edge length parameter to get less details in the displacement. The number of triangles generated for displacement is very much resolution dependent in the default case - increasing the resolution will generate more triangles, which can slow down the rendering.

Also, If the seperate objects are the same type of rock it is a lot faster if those are collapsed to one object.
