How are you guys creating masks on your scene? I am talking about after the fact, after you have already rendered your scene. I have always used the render mask script, but it has become so slow, I can render the entire scene at 4K, faster. It takes about ten minutes to start, about ten minutes to render the mask, and about ten minutes before I can do anything in MAX. All I need is a quick mask to use in PS.

in the moment (not using crypto matte for now) I am doing lots by using selection Sets while working. Then I set up as much multimatte as I need.
If you are doing it after your main rendering, you have to turn off all lighting and shading relevant options in Render settings...
...there I wish, Chaos should make a dedicated Button for that. It also avoids forgetting to turn some settings back on again

I use PSD Manager, but that is when I render the image. I deleted the PS file, so I have to bounce in and mask a few things. It was a simple process if selecting the object's, and picking the render mask script. I would get a black and white mask within seconds..Bobby Parker

if you just need some objects for some new mask - or missing mask (e.g. if deleted) you may try to use "render selected". It´s rendering only this object and gives you a corresponding black&white mask - the alpha - either.
I don't know the render mask script, but is sounds, like it ignores automatically all the render settings I mention before?

I always render a cryptomatte and a wirecolor just in case with it. If I forgot a multimatte mask than I still have some wiggle room without having to re-render.

Before render starts, renderer always compile all renderable objects , meshes and materials , it takes lots of time for large and complex scene.
If you have finished render work , and need to get a single mask for selected object very quickly, you can just disable all other objects renderable property ...or delete them (dont forget backup..), then render , take the result alpha channel as mask.
