  • No shadows

I have a client who wants no shadows on her house. I do get this request often, and I find it very strange. I did an overcast day, and the shadows were what she liked, but then she said it was too gloomy and wanted a sunny blue sky. What do you recommend, a back lite house?

Hmm...a very weird request. Are you sure she knows what she is asking for?
Maybe she wants an orthographic thing but with a little AO?

If so, then just turning off cast shadows might do it....

That you get this often is even stranger....

What about just placing the the sun aligned with the camera but higher in the sky. The thing I think most of us try and avoid if at all possible.

I had an architect who once told me that he was AWARD WINNING! Request no shadows on any of his work. Maybe she wants HDRI, you know, those over-processed images you see on real estate websites. Actually, I have two clients asking for the same thing. Here is one and she wants no shadows.

Yeah, it makes for a very flat image.

I tried to make my sky invisible and a separate sky in the environment slot so that I could control them separately, which kind of works. She wants overcast lighting with a clear blue sky. I do think that the shadows are a little too dark, and they are too noisy to boost in Photoshop.

I think that it's fair to ask for a reference of what they want, so do that then match it as close as possible.

A ref would be best, but perhaps you backlight it so that the entire front is lit with soft sky light. This makes for very subtle shadows... No clue. Weird.

Yes, I suggested a backlight, and I would expose the sky to get some detail back.

ask for reference is the best way i guess

I'm amazed people pay architects for creations like these...
