  • rpc doing light solution really slow

Am having a problem with RPC when using light cache and irr maps. It takes a really long time to compute the light solution. Also if I have two different styles of trees in the sceen, it won't render at all, or takes so long I just stop it. Has anyone got any suggestions on what they think might be going wrong?

In all honest its probably best to do your RPC's in a seperate pass in scanline.

    Will solve alot of problems.

What you can do is do all your calcs with the rpc's hidden ... then render from the saved irr map and lightcache map with the rpc's unhiden... they do not contribute to the GI ...

That is really one of the easiest and harmless ways to solve it...

My advice in this method (case) is:

Always use a separate LAYER (Max's layer) for your RPCs...When the
time for colculation comes, just hit the eye and switch that layer off...
When its ready... hit it again to get them back in the scene... which is
            actually what natty said...

Should really be put in the online help index

you could even merge the saved out rpc's once you have done the calcs.
this may save on memory when doing your calcs.
