Yes, very fancy, but what about finishing 1.5 first?

Do you still bother about that number? No version number war again please...

            Gijs, talking to me?

If so what does "still" mean? I never complained about numbers before, all I want is a final version with all the features included, and 100% working and fully tested so I can install that for production and install it on all my slaves and then don't have to update it all the time. For production I update my computers as little as possible and certainally not in the middle of projects, and as my project usally spans over 6 months per project (read car). Because of that I'm also still using 1.46.12 as that was the version avaiable the last time I did major software upgrades between projects, so what I'm looking for is the next big release that is working 100%

              Hey Thomas,
first of all I don't want to offend you, it is just a simple question. With 'still' I mean after all that has been argued about the progress of Vray. It is just useless. The only thing it can bring is another neverending argument about 1.5. Do you remember LJ with his 'waiting for 1.5' avatar? All his rants have never helped Vray's development in any way.
IMO Vray has passed what was promissed for 1.5 long time ago, and it gets more mature and bug-free with every new release. It has been mentioned in the past that working on only one platform is not the way to go, if Vray wants to stay competitive, and that is to the benefit of us all.
So maybe for you personally it is a problem, at this moment. For me and a lot of other people, with shorter running projects it is not.

I know what we have now is probably more then we paid for so if they called the next release 2.0 and we had to pay extra I wouldn't care, as I said before I would just like to have a "fixed" release where all the features is in (hdri domelight, AO, working DR and the other stuff that's still missing) and then draw a line in the sand and only make bug fixes so it's safe to update, meaning that new version would read old files the same way so you would be able to render old stuff without problems.

If they then start concentrating on a standalone version or maya or whatever is fine by me, however I would prefer to know what the road plan is so I can plan accordingly.

HEY HEY BOYZ!!!! Chill!!! Lets not start. PLEASE. Lets Kiss and make up...

Now Paul. Regarding your SGI question. It may... but I have to tell you, there are faster computer than SGIs. But hey if you can "borrow" it for a while, great. Itanium procs are fairly robust, but not as fast as AMDs right now.

actually I think its been fairly civil. People are getting a little hot waiting for 1.5 and so on. Coupled with the fact chaos promised to show here the info shown at siggraph. which it still hasn't.

                        Just a little info.

First of all - none of the resources that we spend on V-Ray standalone and V-Ray for MAYA can help in the finishing of the 1.5. In other words - the people who are working on the porting etc can do practically nothing to speed up the 1.5 .

Regarding the 1.5 - there are some new features there that we are finishing(some of which were shown during the siggraph). There is no need to present something that is halfdone.

The 1.5 RC1 beta testing will start in a couple of weeks once we have tested the new licensing system. Which we are finishing ATM. With all the new featuers and stuff.

Everybody is right in their complains and we are doing what we can. Please, dont start another war here. And please don't make us lock the thread.

                        Cheers
                        Peter
